Resins

Resins are the sap and gum from sacred trees.

The resin is obtained from live trees via ‘tapping’. This is done in a sustainable way to ensure that the tree continues to thrive.

Fresh resins are often fragrant, though some resins do not give off much scent until they are burned. The best way to burn resin incense is by putting the incense onto a hot charcoal tab. Just a sprinkle of resin creates a rich, aromatic smoke and fragrance.

The best known and most commonly used resin for incense would have to be Frankincense, which comes from a small shrub that originates from the Middle East and yields a natural gum collected by making incisions into the bark. It is often paired with Myrrh as the two scents blend so beautifully. Copal is South America's alternative to Frankincense - with some similarities but a stunning scent of its own. Other resins include Dragons Blood, Benzoin, Dammar and Amber.
